I absolutely love the concept of artist run galleries or spaces primarily because they give they give the work on display a whole new level of meaning and desirability through the association with the practices, personalities and processes of the artists. I have that I am far more inclined to purchase an artwork if I have spoken to the artist or have had some sort of interaction with the artist first. Hi Nick, I have a home occupation gallery, (small 14×14 space) in Wellfleet, Massachusetts, Gallery 5. While I have been painting and making things for a long time, having my own gallery is new, so I can work where I live, roll out of bed and up to the easel. My thinking - good art does not have to be expensive and people really do want to see and breathe process. Formal galleries in my area, incl Provincetowen, take 50-60% on sales. Learned about you in the latest OIA Newsletter.
