The Art Dubai Contemporary Art Fair
I have just been checking out the website for the Art Dubai (http://www.artdubai.ae)which is a big contemporary art fair being held in Dubai from the 19th-22nd of March. As well as the contemporary art fair, Art Dubai 2008 will also be hosting a Global Art Forum during which 50 of the world’s most respected curators, collectors and artists will present their visions and debate ideas on the evolving business of art.Art Dubai looks like an absolutely fantastic event in a spectacular location that I am sure will be a massive success.

Hi Nicholas, I am thinking of going to the Art Fair in a few days. I am an American painter who painted in Shiraz, Iran (during 2003-2004) in the garden of Paradise and Tomb of Hafez and was the first painter to be granted a show in the Tomb Garden of Hafez in 2004 by the Shiraz Cultural Institute and Foreign Ministry. Since then I have had shows at The United Nations sponsored by Mission of Iran to the UN July 2007 and at The National Arts Club in NYC Oct-Nov 2007. Here is my website http://www.laurieblum.com. I would love to know your feelings on my bringing these works and more to Dubai.

Hi Nicholas, I am a brazilian born artist fascinated for Dubai, even though I am painting for a long time I am just starting to put my art out there. My style is very contemporary and I have been getting great reviews. Please take a look at my website at http://www.artwedeliver.com. I consider my art very sweet, it is like a bit of fresh air. I use images of birds, some times real some times I created them, to represent people and life situation. I hope you like it, looking forward to hear from you………..love

Free art thrives on the Internet! Traditional art institutions like the Art Dubai are exclusive and obsolete.

Dear Nicholas,
Did you receive feedback from those who attended? I have coordinated a large outdoor art show in Beverly Hills for the last several years. I would imagine that the allowable subject matter, at a show in Dubai, would be conservative. Material of a sexual nature, or simply involving the exposed human form, would not be welcome? Our “sexual nature” is indisputably one of the major themes of art, be it visual, musical, filmic, etc.
I know that Dubai is a special place which is embraced by so many, but isn’t it still a rather conservative one in terms of allowable contemporary themes? I really welcome your feedback.

Where do I register to be part of the Interior show at Dubai in March and also are there hotels that a normal person can afford. Appreciate your insight and article.
